Veeam Backup & Replication v12 Update

Veeam Backup & Replication v12 is now available and we are here to talk about our favourite new features in v12 and what it means for Covenco and the services we can offer to our customers.

First up we have the all-new Veeam Data Platform.

Veeam Backup & Replication is the foundation of the Veeam Data Platform and provides businesses with data resiliency through secure backup and fast, reliable recovery solutions.

In v12, Veeam continues to improve cyber-defence against the ever-improving ransomware and hacker attack landscape. The new security improvements include:

Trusted immutability for every workload: Ensure that your backups can always be restored after a cyberattack with comprehensive, immutability options from trusted vendors.

Improved cyber resiliency: Enable the fastest response to ransomware attacks by identifying and alerting with Veeam ONE as well as restoring only clean data with improved secure restore including automation and proven recovery orchestration for all workloads.

Multi-factor Authentication (MFA): Empower a zero-trust journey with MFA, password-less service accounts (gMSA) for Windows, and single-use credentials for Linux and fortify your defence against cyberattacks with Kerberos-only and IPv6-only environment support.

Another stand-out feature is Direct-to-Object Storage.

With v12, you can leverage object storage both as a regular backup repository and as ANY Scale-out Backup Repository (SOBR) tier.

The benefits of object storage integration in v12 include Direct-to-Object, Direct-to-Cloud, Immutable Backups, Improved storage format, Health check light, Wasabi integration, and Smart Object Storage API.

What does v12 mean for Covenco and the services for our customers?

V12 brings a number of features that will allow Covenco to enhance our service offering to our customers, including:

Veeam Service Provider Console v7

This feature provides greater visibility of the customer’s local VBR Console using the Veeam Service Provider Console v7.  This will allow us to enhance and simplify our service to customers using Veeam Cloud Connect, with troubleshooting day-to-day issues and access to the Customers VBR Console. It will also allow us to provide regular patching and updating services to our customers.

Self-Service Facility

A Self-Service portal will be available for Customers to carry out delegated restores by us as the Service Provider across their Windows, Linux, and MAC estates.

Continuous Data Protection (CDP)

CDP will be available later this year for Covenco customers who have a requirement for real-time data replication offsite to Covenco through Cloud Connect, simplifying the initial CDP offering.  It will rival all the competitor products in this space, having only a single solution to manage both backup and DR with near real-time RPOs.
