IBM POWER11 S1112 Rack & Tower
Right-Sized Power11 Performance, Without Platform Compromise
The IBM Power S1112 is IBM’s entry point into the Power11 generation, built for organisations that need enterprise-grade reliability and security in space-constrained environments such as branch offices, retail sites, manufacturing floors, and finance locations.
The S1112 is the only Power11 server available within the IBM i P05 software tier, making it a natural upgrade path for existing Power S814 and Power S914 users who want to modernise without triggering a step-change in software licensing costs. It supports AIX, IBM i, and Linux on the same chassis, with rack-mounted and desk-side tower format options for flexible installation.
KEY POINTS TO CONSIDER
Modernise entry and edge workloads without a licensing penalty
IBM Power S1112 delivers up to 2x better core performance than the Power S914, and up to 3x better core performance than the Power S814, allowing organisations to increase application performance without triggering higher per-core software licensing costs – a common concern when moving off older Power8 and Power9 entry systems.
The system is built around a single Power11 entry Single-Chip Module (eSCM), available in 4-core or 10-core configurations, and is available as a 2U rack drawer (machine type 9242-21B) or tower (9242-21T) to suit different branch and edge environments.
The system supports up to 512 GB of DDR5 DDIMM memory and up to 12.8 TB of NVMe storage across four internal NVMe U.2 bays, giving IT teams a compact platform that still handles data-intensive applications with the bandwidth and reliability expected of enterprise Power infrastructure. IBM i environments run within the P05 software tier (up to 4 cores and 64 GB of memory), while remaining system resources can be allocated to AIX, Linux, and AI workloads on the same server.
Every S1112 is protected with quantum-safe cryptography for secure boot and firmware-level virtualisation, extending Power’s enterprise security posture down to the smallest system in the Power11 range.
Is the S1112 Right for You?
Choosing the Right Entry Point into Power11
The Power S1112 is purpose-built for a specific class of deployment: single-socket, space-constrained environments such as branch offices, retail sites, and near-edge locations, or straightforward upgrades from older one-socket Power S814 and Power S914 systems.
If your requirement is a single, compact system for a branch, remote site, or a smaller IBM i P05-tier workload, the S1112 is likely the most cost-effective route into Power11.
If you are running data-intensive, multi-socket workloads across retail, manufacturing, or financial services environments – SAP HANA, large databases, container platforms, or consolidation from multiple older Power7/Power8 systems – the IBM Power S1124 & L1124 scale-out servers are the better starting point for most Covenco customers, offering up to 60 cores, 8 TB of memory, and significantly greater I/O headroom.
Not sure which fits your environment? Our IBM Power specialists can review your current workload profile and licensing position and recommend the right-sized system, whether that’s the S1112, the S1124/L1124, or a wider Power11 configuration.
